Don’t be a Cactus

Some charities are guilty of treating their marketing strategy like it’s a cactus. Meaning, they post as often as I water my prickly friend. ⁣
I get it. We all get swamped with day to day responsibilities, but it can lead to infrequent marketing efforts around big events or moments. ⁣

Listen, things can grow with this approach, (in fact I’m excellent at keeping desert plants alive) but you’re missing out on SO much growth that can be achieved by showing up frequently & consistently. Remember cacti grow in the desert, which historically is NOT the best place to build a large audience.⁣

Marketing is relationship building. One of the biggest mistakes is unintentionally forming a one way relationship & only posting when you have a strong call to action & want something from your followers. ⁣

So can we all agree to branch out & explore some other marketing plants? & invest in caring for them?⁣

And just for fun, if your marketing was a plant, which would it be? ⁣
