Let’s talk value
You may have heard about the concept about providing value in your posts.
In short this means exactly what it sounds like. You want to share content with your audience that is adding value. This can be by posts that are educating, entertaining, or inspiring.
This model makes sense for the for profit sector because an audience will get tired of you selling to them everyday.
Lets try an example of a luggage company.
There are only so many posts you can write with the focus being on purchasing a suitcase. So the company might use exotic travel photography with their luggage (travel inspiration), might share tips for packing light (educational), or might post a relatable video of waiting for your luggage at the carousel when you’re eager to finally get out of the airport.
I think we can agree that this is a great strategy for a business but come on, aren't nonprofits providing value just by existing? If you’re addressing homelessness, or working supporting at risk youth, how can anyone say anything about you not providing value? Isn’t that a bit dramatic?
Ok, ok, I hear you loud & clear.
BUT also, you really need to provide value in your posts.
Let me ask you this.
“Why should someone follow you and why should they care?”
I’m not speaking about your super-fans that are benefiting directly from your service. They will probably like and follow you no matter what you post.
But what about everyone else including potential donors & your greater community?
You have an opportunity to engage and let them know why they should care about you and your mission.
& guess what, remember your super-fans?
I bet they wouldn’t mind posts that were educating, entertaining, or inspiring. Seriously, they’ll probably be thrilled.
So... what’s one way you can add value in a post this week?
And did you find this valuable? :)
