How to make your nonprofit stand out online

I’m just going to go ahead and say it. Your audience is going to immediately forget your email or post after seeing it. I mean what are the chances of getting an empty subway car? (if that ever does happen to you that’s incredibly suspicious make a run for it) Your content is coming at ppl at a rush hour pace. Their inbox, feed, and every shop is jam-packed with brands & ads screaming for attention.

So your audience does the only thing they can. They ignore it. 90% of ads people see are immediately forgotten.

Ok now that I painted that bleak picture, I owe you the solution, don’t I?

How would you get someone’s attention in the subway? (aside from having an unconventional band or selling candy bars)

You’d call their name.

It’s basic but it works. Stop trying to talk to everyone and making your content broad and general so it can be palpable for everyone.

Who is your ideal audience? What type of people are your ideal supporters? Talk to them and tailor your content around the things THEY care about and using their language. When they read your post everything about it should tell them this is for you and I made it just for you.

I mean think about this. There are thousands of marketers online, why are you here?  I’d love to pat myself on the back and say it’s my brilliant content but that alone isn’t enough.

This says YOUR name on it. It’s tailored for people like you - nonprofits trying to do their best marketing with limited time and resources.

& it talks your language. See what I did there?
