Why would anyone donate money to charity?

When you spend money on anything, it’s because it’s a bargain. If it’s a restaurant meal, a pair of shoes, an experience, or supporting a charity the reason you spend is because the value, utility, or enjoyment you’ll get is MORE valuable then what you paid for it. That’s what makes it worth it.

For some people, a designer bag for $1,000 is a bargain. The status & enjoyment they gain from the item is worth more to them then the money spent. For someone else, it’s a rip-off the enjoyment they’d get just isn’t close to worth it.

When we market to our community we need to start with empathy. With understanding that everyone looks at value differently. When we take the time to get to know our audience then we can offer the right type of people something that would be a bargain to them. This ability to make THIS unique impact.

Remember when you ask for a donation that the right type of people will see giving to you as a bargain. The status they gain, the meaning they get, and the knowledge of their impact, is worth more to them then their donation.

So find the right people, experience empathy, & use marketing to show them it’s a bargain for THEM.
